Farm Problems Noted By Esch
WASHINGTON, D. C. - Some of the problems facing the naíion's farmers have been outlined in a report given by Congressman Marvin L. Esch of the Second District of Michigan. Esch's comments follow: "Farm parity ratio stands today at 73 per cent, the lowest it has been since June of 1934. This means that the farmer today receives less than three quarters of what the government says is fair. 'Parity' is the fair ratio between what a farmer gets for his products and what his costs are. "Farm income is down 16 per cent from last year. While prices paid for food by consumers have risen more than 40 per cent in the last 20 years, the prices farmers receive for their products are two per cent lower than they were in 1947. According to recent studies by the House Agriculture Committee, the farmer now receives only 38 centsout of every food dollar. &tS(pCm
