The University has acceptec? part of the Tuomy homestead at 2117 Washtenaw and will máke it available as a new home for the Historical Society of Michigan. The action was reported yesterday at the monthly meeting of U-M regents. Cornelius W. Tuomy died in 1966. He specified in his will that the home and about two acres of adjoining land be used for historical or public purposes. His estate's executors made arrangements to give the land to the University. The large house had been built in the 19th century by Cornelius L. Tuomy as the center! of a 227-acre dairy farm. It is located at what is now Washtenaw Avenue and Tuomy Road, about a mile southeast of the U-M's Central Campus. Wilbur K. Pierpont, U-M vice president for finance, said thej house will be "renovated some-j what" before part of it is made available to the Historical Society of Michigan, which is now located in Lansing. U-M maintenance costs are estimated at $2,000 yearly, he added. "We believe that the new location in the center of the population of Michigan will help develop greater interesls among our people in the history of our state and will be easily accessïble to our membership for such services as we are able to give," a Historical Soeiety statement said. :
