LANSING- Charles Stewart Mott was eulogized as a "truly great man . . . whose works '. . . will endure forever as a living monument" in a resolution adopted by the state Senate Tuesday. Another resolution w.ithj , identical language also was adopted and sent to the House for concurrence. j Both were sponsored by! Sen. Garland Lane, D-Flint, and the names of all senators and Lt. Gov. James H. Brickley were added as a courtesy. Mr. Mott died Sunday at the age of 97. The resolution cites Mr. Mott as the last of the ' traordinary pioneers of the auto industry who literally put the nation and the world on wheels." It traces the history of the Westijm-Mott Axle Co., which was acquired by General Motors Corp. "The philanthropies created by Mr. Mott, awesome both in scope and in kind, are crowned by the Mott Foundation, which has so flourished that today it stands as the world's fifth largest philanthropic foundation with assets of almost $400 million," the resolution says. Recipients of Mott's generosity, the resolution points out, i n c 1 u d e the Mott Community Center of Science and Applied Arts, the C.S. Mott Foundation Children's Health Center and the Mott Ujbrary, all in Flint, as well as contriDutions to the University of Michigan Medical Center for a childres hospital.
