Three persons from the University with experience in environmental planning and related research have accepted appointments as co-chairmen of task force committees established by the local Model Cities Policy Board. Committees and co-chairmen are: Physical environment- Roger C. Roman, a member of a U-M architecture class that has studied the city's north-central i área, and Robert H. Hunter, assistant director of the Human Relations Commission; Economie conditions- Rudolf B. Schmerl, director of program development in the U-M Office of Research Administration, and Mrs. Albert H. Wheeler, president of the local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; Social conditions - Prof. Richard D. Mann of the U-M psyc'nology department, and the Kev. John Woods of Bethel AME Church. Ezra L. Rowry, temporary Model Cities Board Chairman, said one consideration in the' appointments was to select one white and one black per son to share the co-chairmanship of each committee. He acknowledged that the board "is ha ving difficülties looking for a director." Rowry and City Administrative Assistant Donald J Borut report that at least 20 applicants have been interviewed for I the 12-month job, which carries pay of $12,744. Both voiced I mism that a director will be I named soon. The 17-member board itself is I short one member due to the resignation of Mrs. Norma F. Kraker. The board has asked the city's Zoning Board of Appeals to reject a proposal to rezone from residential to parking the L-shaped Burkhart property adjoining Beakes and N . Fourth Ave. The Post Office has expressed interest in leasing parking space for its vehicles on the property if the zoning can be changed. The Zoning Board of Appeals is expected to deal with the matter Sept. 17.
