Accident Victim Dies
A Slauson Junior High School teacher, critically injured when his car skidded off a snow-covered road in Scio Township and struck a tree Thursday morning, died last night at University Hospital of extensive internal injuries. Edwin M. Aprill Jr., 43, of 5272 W. Liberty Rd., Scio Township, thus becomes Washtenaw County's fifth traffic fatality of the year. The accident occurred while the teacher was eastbound on W. Liberty west of S. Wagner Rd., sheriff's deputies reported. He apparently lost control of his vehicle on slippery pavement as the car entered a curve in the road, veered off the roadway, went into a ditch and then crashed into a tree. The victim was trapped in the car for more than an hour while members of the Ann Arbor Fire Department Rescue Squad worked to cut away the roof of the demolished vehicle and remove him. Mr. Aprill, who was born in Ann Arbor and resided in Scio Township his entire life, was chairman of the Slauson art department. He had taught at Slauson for 18 years. Mr. Aprill attended the UniI versity of Michigan and was I graduated from Eastern MichI igan University with a BA deI gree in fine arts and an MA I degree in curriculum and suI pervision. He is survived by his wife, I the former Joan Platt; two I daughters Juliet Tucker and I Sally Suzanne, both at honre; I his parents, Mr. and Mrs. EdI win Aprill Sr. of Scio TownI ship; one brother, Alan, of I Lodi Township, and several I neices and nephews. Funeral services will be held I Monday at 4 p.m. from Zion I Lutheran Church. Burial will I follow in Bethlehem CerneI tery.
