Former Civic Leader Ruth Dana, 82, Dies

Ruth M. Dana, who served oithe oíd I Washtenaw County Board of Supervisors from 1948 until 1968, died this morning in Alexandria, Va., at the age of 82. Mrs. Dana was the wife of Samuel T. Dana, retired Dean of the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources. Mrs. Dana resided at 2027 Hill Street I in Ann Arbor until 1971, when she and I Mr. Dana moved to Alexandria. A gradulate of the University of Maine, she arIrived in Ann Arbor in 1927, and remained here for 44 years. Mrs. Dana succeeded in combining a jsuccessful career with raising a family. A mother of two children, a daughter I and a son, she also served as a delégate I to the state Rèpublican Convention one lyear. She was instrumental in the j development of the County Juvenile Home and revising services of the JuveJ nile Court. She was a member and presiI dent of the League of Women Voters, a I board member of the YWCA, and a pa troness of Chi Omega Sorority and Sig[ ma Alpha Iota, a musical sorority. In 1960 Mrs. Dana received the Jane Addams Centennial Award from the Huí ron Valley Chapter of the National Asso ciation of Social Workers. She is survived by her husband; her 'chCáfen, GeorgeTN., a physician in Portland, Ore., and Harriet Dana Carroll, a nurse in Bethesda, Md.; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
