The city has purchased the Newburn property at 742 Fountain St. (above) and is in the process of buying the Union Oil Co. property (right) on the south west corner of Packard and Arch Streets as central-city park sites. Funds for purchase of the sites are from a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The city paid $10,500 for the Newburn property, located on the southeast corner of Summit Street, and will pay $78,000 for the four lots owned by the Union Oil Co. The HUD grant was first promised in 1972 and required an equal city match. The city [?] funds came from the 1966 park [?] issue.
