The Ann Arbór TuHice Department has dealt with 15 sexuality cases since the sexual preference portion of the city's Human Rights Ordinance was enacted last year. The report, requested from the pólice by Human Rights Party Councilman Gerald De Grieck, showed the department did some work on five cases of "gross indecency" in he past year. Two of the cases are eing prosecüéd and one other case was closed when the offender agreed to seek medical help. The department has also investigated four cases of "indecent liberties," generally taken to mean indecent action short of sexual intercourse with a minor, and six cases of accosting and soliciting. De Grieck said he requested the report in order to see if Tne depértment was discriminating against homosexual men and women or whether the ordinance was being enforced as applied to the homosexual community. In a relatëd matter, De Grieck also questioned City Attorney Edwin Pear about the disposition of complaints from homosexual womén against the Rubaiyat Restaurant. - Pear said his office had reI ceived the complaints without I recommendation from the I city's Human Rights DepartI ment and was evaluating I them before deciding what acI tion, if any, should be taken. De Grieck requested Pear I seek a recommendation from I the Human Rights DepartI ment on disposition of the I case and requested Pear I bring his recommendation on I the matter to the next council I meeting. Council also received a reI i port from the department I about the preparation of six I video tapes for training pólice I officers on how to deal with I rape cases. The training tapes I include lectures on the extent I I of the rape problem, the legal I aspects of the offense, invesI j tigative téchniques to be used I in rape cases, the medical asI pect of rape case investigation I and a tape on increasing senI sitivity in dealing with the I rape victim. The department hopes to I begin the training program I I within the next two weeks.
