The most recent class of poliee recruits to be graduated from the local training center on Washtenaw Avenue compiled the highest grade average ever recorded in a Michigan school for new officers. ■ Stanley J. Dulgeroff, director of the center, said the 36-officer class finished the seven-week bas ie training course with an average of 78. 11. The previous I high for a recruit school in the state was 77.91, recorded by a class at the MichI igan State Poliee Academy in Lansing. The record-setting.class of 35 men and I one woman included Patrolma'n Patrick I McCury of the Leonard-Addison Poliee I Department, who registered the only I perfect score ever recorded in the preI training readingcomprehension test, Dulgeroff said. Twenty law enforcement agencies were represented in the 36officer class, including the Southfield Police Department which had Kathie. Ann ■ Wark enrolled. Wesley Hoes of the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Training Council in Lansing called the grade record of the Washtenaw Counnty class "exceptional." Officers from local law agencies who were in the top-graded class included Larry Jerue, James Mosher and David Burke of the Ann Arbor Pólice Department, Mark S. Reece and Ronald J. Schebil of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department, James H. Westrick of the Saline Pólice Department and George G. Basar of the Milán Pólice Department. Other officers from the area were Thomas R. Evans of the South Lyon Pólice Department, Forr,est D. Farley of the Howell Pólice Department and Charles I K. Snelling and Gordon A. Sturos of the I Green Oak Pólice Department in LivingI ston County. The local training academy is located at the Washtenaw Service Center at 4133 Washtenaw Ave. in Pittsfield Township. Dulgeroff has served as the training center's director since it was formed five years ago and he is aided by Louis Krzisnik, Jr., assistant director. The adminis-" trative budget for the center is funded to a total of 57 per cent by Washtenaw County with Monroe County providing 29 per cent Livingston County 14 per cent. The áppropriations are based on 1970 census figures for the three counties. Many of the courses provided in the I basic training program are accepted for academie credit at Washtenaw and Monroe Commúnity Colleges. Since the' center opened, 351 pólice recruits representing 87 agencies have been graduated in I the 13 classes. New officers received 280 I hours of instruction on criminal law, 1 dence, search and seizure, arrests, 1 fessions and investigations.
