Ann Arbor's) troTréy-pushers are get- (ing another boost in the form of a Friday night benefit at Chances Are, 516 E. Liberty St. For $3, patrons wil] be helping to undürwrite the cost of bringing an 1899 trolley from Lisbon. Portugal to Ann Arbor. They will also be entitled to enjoy 1950s music and dancing provided for the 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. show by Doctor Bop and the Headliners, a Wisconsin musical group. Mary Lou Slater, Ann Arbor advertising and public relations specialist, has , spearheaded an effort since January to bring the trolley here and have it installed as a downtown people-raover. She said Wednesday the trolley, already ordered, will be here by the end of April. Some $4,500 will have to be raised to offset shipping costs payable upon its arrival, she said. The Ann Arbor Street Railway and Museum, a nonprofit threemember group of which Slater is a memb'er, hopes to raise the money by then, she said. Some $1,200 is already on hand hut must be paid toward the $7,300 cost of purchasing the trolley, she said. mi ii in ii i- iiiiimii ui Tickets fifrFriday's benefit may be purchased at the following businesses: Liberty Music Shop, David's Books, Purchase Camera Shop and Insta-Print of Ann Arbor, Slater said. Tickets will also be available at the door. The Friday benefit was planned when the musical group offered to perform on behalf of the trolley, Slater said, and Chances Are offered to open its doors for the benefit. Other trolley benefits and promotions are in the offing, and plans are being made for the trolley to become an Ann Arbor Street Fair attraction this summer. Slater said the State Street Area Association. a group of business leaders, is hoping to co-sponsor the trolley as a fair attraction. Although the Street Railway and Museum group actually ordered the trolley and is responsible for paying for it, the group's intent has been that the trolley would' ventually become a municipal transit vehiclo.
