The Washtenaw United Way Campaign stands at 68 per cent of its goal of $2, 170,977. "We've accounted for $1,483,430 so far in the campaign which began Sept. 30," said David H. Ponitz, campaign general chairman. "We feel we can reach our goal by the final report date on Nov. 7, but obviously there is work to be done." "Some 3,000 volunteer campaign workers are making personal contacts throughout the campaign area," Ponitz continued. "I cannot stress too strongly that the human services offered by the 48 social agencies combined in this single appeal must be curtailed unless the needed funds are raised to support their essential activities. The time to help is Campaign officials pointed out that several units are either. lagging well behind the overall percentage raised or have failed to bring their reports up to date. One year ago, the third report showed 72 per cent of the campaign goal reached. Heading the list of those units who have reached or exceeded their goals are 22 companies in the Pacesetter group of 50 major businesses in the area. New additions to the list of goal-achievers included Ann Arbor Trust, Ford Rawsonville, G.M. Assembly División, GM Hydra-matic and GM Truck and Coach. Pacesetters as a group are at $898,278 or 87 per cent of their target. Reporting in at high levéis are the following units with percentages of their ■goals achieved at the third report: Washtenaw Community College (83); Lincoln Consolidated Schools (74); Whitmore Lake Schools (97); Advance Gifts (73); Clubs and Organizations (85); General Insurance (78); St. Joseph's Hospital (85); Mercywood (78); and Social Agencies (93). "Many units have exceeded half their goals," Ponitz said; "however, with on)y 12 more working days until Nov. 7 we still have much to do. We ask the people of the United Way ,area to help us achieve success in this important campaign."
