Aífudy of the Allen Week Drain, requested by the city I of Ann Arbor and completed by the Washtenaw County Drain Commissioner with I technical assistance by ' I McNamee, Porter and Seeleys I and the firm of Johnson, Johnson and Roy, has been completed and published. The study lists five alterna-' tives to reduce flooding in thej 3,500-acre drain basin, and is available from the office Of the drain commissioner, Room 127, County Building. The study is a result of the June, 1968 flood, which washed out one of the city's( four dams and damaged others. The study began with simple reference to construction of new relief sewers for the drainage system, but was ex-' panded to explore alternativei solutions to the flood próblem and to assess the potential of drains as a multiple-use commurüty asset. ! Two of the five alternative solutions involve construction of relief sewers, two involve retention basins and one consists of establishing a floodway. Cost estimates of the solutions range from $19 million for the relief sewers, $2.5 million plus construction costs for the retention basins, to purchase of the 53 acres within the 1968 flood-plain at a cost of $6 million. The Allen's Creek basin is bounded on the west by 1-94; on the north by a line extending northeasterly from the Jackson Road and 1-94 intersection to Newport Road and the M-14 bypass, then southeasterly along Sunset Road to the Huron River; on the east by a line which extends south and southeasterly from the Huron River and Argo Dam to the intersection of Washtenaw i and Hill Streets; on the south by a line which extends southwesterly from Washtenaw and Hill Streets to South Main and Scio Church Road and westerly from South Main and Scio Church Road to 1-94. A public hearing on the I study will be held on Tuesday, I April 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the I City Council chambers. Ikhhhhhhbmh
