Sherman Ry Smith of 46537 Ecorse Rd., Belleville, a technical student at Washtenaw Community College, has received the Alvin M. Bentley Foundation Award for excellence. The award covers tuition and books for the school year 196970. Smith recently was on the two-man WCC auto repair team which won second place in the Plymouth trouble shooting contest for community colleges. He is a full-time student in the automotive mechanics program and works full-time at the Ford Rawsonville plant. He is married and the father of three children. The scholarship was established by the late University of Michigan Regent and Mrs. Bentley to recognize deserving students who are making a contribution to their college or university.
