A fire broke out in an up-atairs room in Prof. dePont's residence on Jefferson straet, vesterdav forenoon, at a time when noone was in the house excepting thégirl. The weeks ironing had been placed near a 3toveto dry. It caught fire 'and was consumed as was a vocking chair. The alarm was sounded but the girl extinguishecl the flames by a liberal application of water before the department got there, altliough they were prompt to respond. The room was badly seorched, the paper being destroyed auc" the door charred. The loss wasSldO or more covered, by insurance.
