There are some very funny things connected with the workings of the new marriage license law. And one of the funniest of these is to watch the expression on the face of the expectant groom when the genial county clerk or his efficient deputy asks him, if the color of the bride is white or black. He, at first, hardly knows whether the question is meant for an insult or not. But the law makes no allowance for a groom's feelings and the proudest and daintiest bachelor in Washtenaw has to walk up and swear the airy, fairy creature, he expects to soon cali his very own is not of a sable hue. One expectant groom the other day inquired of Mr. Howlett, while an anxious look appeared upon his handsome countenance, whether or not the girl could back out after the license had been taken out. The kind hearted clerk assured him that if she had recently given her consent to the taking out of the license, she was morally bound to marry him. A great load was evidently lifted from the shortly to be Benedict's mind. The marriage return has been received.
