BiRMtNGHAM, Conn., Jan. 11.- Fii-e iu Bast Village, tiear Munroe, destroyed tha alm3 house and au adjoining building early Tnesday morning and three persous were bnrried to death. Tilomas Colyer. who sleep in t.be poor house, was awakened about 3:30 c'clock by fallitig diahes, and seeing the flames in tha building adjoining the pöor house gn ve an alarm and tried to arouse the inniïtes of the alms house. He theu rushed intó the dwelling whero Mrs. Wheeler, the ownnr of the building lay sleeping. The smoke was sufïocating. but Colyer groped through it to the bed of Mrs. Wheeler, and carried her outside in safety. The alms-house was by this time in flames, and Colyer rushed into it, givng an alarm and trying to awaken the inmates. There were twelve persons in the poor-house and Colyer aesisted niue of them to escape from the burning building, three of them peri9hing before be oould reach them. The paupers and Mrs. WUeoler suffered severely from insufficient clothing, as nothing had been saved from the building. They wero obliged to take shelter in an outhouse while waiting for help from the neighbors. Colyer and Mrs. Wheeler were severely but not fatally burned.
