North Lake. Mr. George Cook's genial face is to be seen in our midst again. Only one fishing shanty on the lake and but few fish caught as yet. Mr. George Read is drawing rye straw to Cornwell's mills near Ann Arbor. On Wednesday evening a donation for the benefit of Elder Marshall was held at Grange Hall. Sleighing is good enough here to haul a cord of green wood to Chelsea, which makes business brisk at present. The church social at James Cook's was well attended and was a very enjoyable affair and a financial success. Mrs. Wm. Glenn fell [on the ice last Monday morning, from the effects of which she is now slowly recovering. On the 18th of January, the Chelsea Fair Association holds its annual election of officers and transacts other important business. Mr. and Mis. George Brown, of Weedsport, N. Y., are doing this part of Michigan pretty thoroughly and having a good time generally. Now is the time, when the weather is dry and cold, to feed out the coarse fodder' in large quantities. To keep up the animal heat, add corn meal. A very pleasant social party was held on "Monday afternoon and evening at Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Glenn's. The house was full and a good time followed. The lyceum last Saturday evening was very interesting, attracting a big sleigh load of lawyers and medics and their ladies from Chelsea, drawn by tour horses. Filling ice houses is the order of business now. The ice is about 12 inches thick. Another evidence of the summer's drouth, or decline in prohibition. Which? The quarterly meeting on Sunday was well attended. Several were baptized and three taken into the church in full membership. Eider Hudson makes a live presiding elder.
