Twenty Degrees Below Zero
St. Paul, Minn., Jan. 16.- With the thermometer marking 20 degrees below, a dozen of the snow-shoe and toboggan clubs paraded Saturday night and assembled in laying the corner stone of the third ice palace. The streets were filled with spectators and the exercises at the palace were conducted with energy. President George Thompson, Governor McGill and Mayor Smith warmed themselves and their auditors with their eloquence, while the pretty daughter of the last named assisted in locating the huge block of ice giving name to the occasion. The palace is nearly completed and will be quite ready by the opening of the winter carnival Jan. 25. St. Paul, Minn, Jan. 17. -Frank Grauber, an employee on the ice palace, fell from the top of the central tower, a distance 1000 feet, Monday forenoon. When picked up his left leg was found to be broken, his forehead split open from temple to temple several ribs broken, and he was injured internally. He will die.
