Cleveland, Ohio, Jan. 17. - Mervine Thompson, known in pugilistic eircles as "the Cleveland Thanderbolt," who was originally brongbt out as the man to wrest championship honors from John L. Sullivan, was knocked out in a glove figlit in ibe Cleveland gymnasium Monday night by John C. Peters, a colored heavy-weight ot Detroit. Peters is a clever man, a hard bitter, and tipped the scale at 165 pounds. Thompson weighed 215. . Two hundred persons paid $5 each to see the mili. Two ouncgJoves were used, and Queensberry rules goverued. Thompson was squarely knocked out at the end oí the fifth round.
