Col. Grant Refuses An Office
Col. Grant Refuses an Office.
New York, Jan. 17.- It was reported Monday evening that Governor Hill had proffered the office of quarantine commissioner to Col. Fred D. Grant. This report was confirmed by Col. Grant to a friend at the Republican club house. He said that he had received a dispatch from the governor in the afternoon asking him if he would accept the position. The colonel had made up his mind on the matter long ago, and, after talking it over with a few friends, he promptly telegraphed a reply, saying that ho could not accept the office under any circumstances. His friends at the club and Republicans generally, indorse his action.
