The Lansing Journal aptly says there are two policies now being advocated in this country.

First—Reduce the taxes to to the actual wants of the government economically administer. This is CLEVELAND's policity.

Second—Maintain the taxes and spend the surplus. It is unnecessary to say that this is BLAINE's policy.

RANDALL, the high protection leader, who masks as a democrat, has received a set back in his own state, where the democratic state central committee defeated a Randallite for chairman and endorsed President Cleveland's message in the strongest terms. When the nominating convention is held, it is not at all probablt that there will be a single state to put forward any other name than that of Cleveland.

THE New York Tribune recently called together a congress of agriculturists, offering to pay all expenses for the purpose of preparing protective tariff ammunition. The master of the Illinois state grange declined the invitation on the ground that although brought up to believe in a protective tariff he realized fully that it was unjust to the farmer. Seven farmers accepted the invitation and, strange to say, they all wore silk plug hats. An exceedingly representative congress that!
