In giving the various cliaracteristies of the Michigan congressman, the Washington correspondent of the Evening Journal places Allen down as the heaviest and healthiest of them. Continuing it says of him: "Oai)t. Allen pays more attention to liis toilet now than when iri Ypsiianti, and he looks well. He has not yet isen to the dignity of a silk hat and robably never will. Heclingsto the oft, Michigan slouch, but never allows t to get rusty or frayed. The captain ooks better witli his nat off than on, or he haa a fine head- big and round nd covered witli handsotne brown hair aried just a little toa near the raiddle, but pushed away from his broad, bulgng forehead. Allen wears a Prince Vlbert coat also, and a low-cut vest, olling collar, small black cravat, and ark trousers. His truddy ,face is moothly shaven except for a small jrown mustache, aud when he reads or writes he balances a pair of gold-bowed pectacles on his anything but large nose. In the streefe he carries a heavy cane, and when not troubled witli the heumatism, he is a livuly pedestrian. Alen weighs in the neighborhood of 225 pounds and his height would be placed at a guess at 5 feet 11 inches."
