'Someone Knows About Murders'
^Someone Knows
About Murders^
Ann Arbor's City Council,
much concerned about the five
murders in this area the past
two years, has asked Police
Chief Walter E. Krasny if there
is anything it can do in terms of
allocating more money to solve
the slayings.
Asked by Mayor Robert J.
Harris if additional funds would
help in solving the crimes,
Krasny said, "I don't know, I
1 everything that is humanly
siMp is being done."
;aid police agencies
-.-_-.-. .n the investigation
have numerous leads and that
they must all be checked out.
"We don't know really whether
we're dealing with one person
or more. We feel someone
knows or could tell something
about the murders. Perhaps he's
afraid for his own life. This
person obviously needs some
help."
Harris, who is a law profes-
sor at the University, suggested
that the person who possibly
knows something of the crimes
could gf '"• • •"-'h a clergyman
without ^"i. irectly to the po-
lice. He said it should be in-
stilled in the public's mind that
anyone having information has
a moral obligation to provide it,
to prevent other persons from
being harmed.
One of the problems, Krasny
said, is that he often gets un-
signed letters with information
allegedly concerning the mur-
derer. If the letter was signed,
he added, the department could
followup the tip and perhaps
tie it in with other information.
Krasny said all resources of
the department are available
for the investigation, stating a
detective team has been as-
signed permanently to the
cases. Also, he said, he is using
whatever manpower is neces-
sary for additional patrols as a
preventive measure.
On the question of rewards,
Krasny noted there is now about
$30,000 being offered but "noth-
ing close to good information
has come in as yet."
