Robert Downing, supported by an excellent compauv, appears in Spaitacus the Gladiator at the opera house next Thursday eveixing. April 27. They have just completed an engagement at Buffalo which has proved a most successful one as the following ampie press notice from the Buffalo papers would indícate. The handsorne tragedian, Itobert Jowning, was. welcomed by anenthusiastic and cultured audience at the opera house last evening. including the most prominent people of our city. It was indeed a high compliment to the great actor who has so suddenly sprung nto prominence and popularity. He eceived a perfect ovation and was reeatedly called before the curtain. With the exception of Booth and Barett"s engagements we have never be'ore received so rich a treat in the egi tímate drama. If ever a man was by nature endowed with a physique like unto that of the deal Spartacus, it is Robert Downing. .''all, handsome, type of a perfect manlood, he looks tl. e character to perfecion, while his voice- full, free and pleasing in quality- enchains the listner's ear. Strong-limbed, litbe and active, as if inured to the mountain ife of old ïhrace.
