Prohibition Mass Meeting

Grand Rapids, Mich. , May 22. - A Prohibition mass meeting was held here to con sider the"def eat of local option in the supreme court, and many speeches were made. One speaker rejoieed that "justice had overtaken the iniquitous conspiracy" of a Republican legislature, and that "a stupendous scheme of hypocrisy" had exploded, and other speeches were in the same tenor. All were directed against the Republicans, whom the Prohibitionists believe are responsible for ineffectual legislation. Resolution were adopted opposing the license system in every form; opposing local option as impracticable and too narrow for purpose: demanding that responsibility for futiïe legislation be placed on Republicans high in power, whose motives in temporizing with evil will not bear scrutiny, and finally demanding total prohibition in the state and nation.
