Corn is making poor headvvay jecause of cold vveather. The Chelsea ball club beat the )exter club here last Saturday. A. F. Freeman, of Manchester was here Wednesday on legal business. The village engine house is now eady to receive the new fire mahinery. A lot of travelling horse traders were camped east of town several ays this week. We hear nothing said yet about elebrating the glorious Fourth in bis part of the state. Children's day will be appropritely observed in this place nextSunay, by all the churches. James M. Congdon, of this place, s dangerously ill with dropsy and jrobably cannot recover. Merchant and Frank Brooks were at Dearborn last Sunday attending he funeral of their brother. The machine agents report much ess machinery being sold in this ounty than in former years. John Flagler, architect of Jackson, was here Wednesday on business about the Holmes' residence. Several very fine row boats have )een made ready for the hsated :erm at the neighboring lakes. Mrs. Avery, of Three Oaks, is exected here next Saturday on account of the sickness of her father. Business is very dull in town, armers are very busy and have very ittle wheat back to market. It sells ïere at 88 to 90 cents. The supervisor reports only 28 )irths in this township the last year. That is rather thin for a population of nearly 3,000 but he thinks the howing will be better next year. Married' at the residence of the iiide's father, James McLaren, in :his village on Wednesday by the lev. Dr. Holmes, Miss Josie Mekaren to William Brewer, of East Saginaw. A large number of invied guests were piesent and the lappy couple took the anemoon :rain for Detroit. There is very little said yet about the wool though the usual season br selling it is close at hand. A 'ew farmers have already sheared but the most of them will not shear until the weather is warmer. The sale will be slow this year because of the ow price and the great caution of the buyers. It is to be hoped that the price will improve before the market opens.
