The Milán gardens are not very far ad vaneed. After a struggle they have one live saloon in Milan. Dr. Kishpaugh and wife visited Clinton the last of the week. Mr. O. P. Newcomb visited his Milan friends the first of the week. Childrens' day will be observed in all of the churches here Sunday. Ypsilanti ball players visited Milan Saturday. Not much playing done we understand. Alva Dexter's new residence is growing, and will soon be a fine home ready for occupancy. Several of the Milanites did Detroit, Toledo, Ypsilanti, Ann Arbolan d various places last week. Mrs. J. H. Ford visited friends in Detroit several days last week, and returned home this week Monday. At the base ball game at the Milan driving park, Wednesday,. the games stood for Milan 10, Pearls, of Detroit 5. Miss Alma Sil!, who has been visiting friends here for severa) days, returned to her home in Detroit, the last of the week. H. E. Burnham, of Detroit, visited Milan a few days ago and says that he is doing a nice business in a pleasant part of the city. Mrs. O. P. Newcomb and son and Miss Laura Potter, started on a visiting tour Monday. They will be gone several days and will visit several places beforejtheir return to Milan. The Milan driving park opened Saturday afternoon. The weather was auspicious. The crowd was large. The races were intetesting. A number of prizes we're won in Milan by the several contestants. Commencement exercises next Friday. The professor will make the programme one of interest to all. Miss Millie Hitchcock is the only gradúate this year from the Milan high school but there will be fine musiCj recitations, essays, etc. The Baptist church looked home like, neat, clean and decidedly cozy Sunday with its new carpet, etc. The auditorium was well filled Sunday morning and the sermón was very interesting. Altogether the Baptist society in Milan is in a very flourishing condition. There seem to be whisperings in the air that sound strange and thusly- shall - will - had Milan better celébrate the Fourth of July ? The glorious fourth that the American eagle has soared over so long. An answer is wafied back to interesting listeners. This year would be as good a time to celébrate as anv so Milan had better celébrate. The American Eagle and the American citizens would enjoy it. Mrs. BHnn and Mrs. G. R. Williams attended the W. C. T. U. convention at London, Wednesday The entertainment was fine, the papers interesting, the addresses ali that could be wished for. Mrs. Bailey, of Hastings, delivered the address, and she is a very able woman. Altogether the Monroe county convention was a grand success in every way. The president, Mrs. F. J. Sumner, a very intelligent lady, is residing temporarily in Ann Arbor, her home being in Toledo. Decoration day the memorial services were properly observed. The post and the ladies relief corps formed in a procession at the hall and marched to the Union church where the services were held. Post commander W. Robison ronducted the services. Very fine and brief addresses were made by Revs. J. W. Mcüregor, M. H. Bartram, J. Huntington and McMahon. Most excellent music was furnished by the male quartette consisting of Dr. Chapin, F. Trussell, G. E. Hause and C. W. Thompson. The services were interesting and impressive and the decorating of the soldiers monument was witnessed by a large concourse of people.
