The artesian well of Place Hebert, at Paria, has just been finished, aftertwentytwo years' work on t. It was necessary to bore to a depth of 2,360 feet to reach. water, and (meh depth was attained only with the greatest difficulty The work had to be stopped several times, either on account of the hardness of the strata traTersed or of the crushing of the metallic tubing caused by the pressure of the earth. The new well is the third of the public wells of Pai-is, the others belng those of Urenelle and Passy lts diameter is 5 feet and the weight of the tubing about 880. 000 pounds.
