Suicide Of An Old Soldier
John O'NeilI, an old soldier, committed suicide Wednesday night. by hanging. He lived in this city during the winter and durng the summer nionths worked in the country. Wednesday evening he was found on the Whitmore Lake road apparently much exhausted from the heat. He was assisted along and determined to stop in the barn of J . G. Z svinck, in the town of Northfield He was seen to enter the barn. field, by the familv, who supposed he had gone there to stay all night. He was not under the iniiuence of liquor and nothing was thought strange about his entering the barn, as he had been working for Mr. Zwinck. When the men went out to do the chores at Cour o'clock yesterday rnorning they found O'Xeill suspended by the neck with a halter tied to a beam. The body was cold and he had evidently been dead some hours. It is supposed that he hung bimself shortly after entering the barn in a [fit of insanity superinduced by despondency. He was an unmarried man. sixty years of age and a quiec inoffensnre person. He bas one brother living in this city. He served for three years in company K, 4th Michigan infantry and was honorably discharged . He was in the city Tuesday, at which time he forwardod a voucher for his pension.

J. G. Zwinck
