F. Burtless visited Ann Arbor one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Kelley we re Detroit visitors Thursday. Messrs. Whitmarsh and Kelley went to Ann Arbor, Tuesday. Dr. Chapin went to Detroit on business Thursday morning. Rev. M. H. Bartram drove to Ann Arbor the first of the week. Prof. Blodgett and wife, of Saline, visited friends in Milan last week. William Easterly's store has a new coat ofpaint and it is a great itnprovement. Mr. Fuller, of Minnapolis, Minnesota, is visiting his brother, C Fuller this week. John Pilbeam, of Milan township, lost a barn by fire Thursday nuon. It was struck by lightning. Mr. and Mrs. A. Hayden returned from their Sand Lake sojourn Saturday afternoon much refreshed and rested. Donation Wednesday evening at the opera house. It will be an enjoyable evening for no pains is spared to make it so. Prof. Hearn and wife, Miss Ddaforce and Charlie Robison visited the state normal school at Ypsilanti, Monday. Miss Grace Huntington lett Saturday morninsr for east Saginaw and Higging's Lake, where she will visit for several days. The weather has come to a white heat, "mercury has riz." The thermometer is sending up several degrees above the asked tor register. Progressive Milan will have the extreme pleasure Friday evening of listening to a musical and literary entertainment by a troupe from fpsilanti. The commencement exercises were very interesting. The music was extra good, the opera house was crowded full and the audience seemed to appreciate all efforts. Patrick Welch's lecture on Romanism at the opera house Sunday afternoon was well attended, also the lecture to gentlemen only, Monday evening. June i.th, Mrs. H. M. Burt's handsome residence caught fire in some unknown way and urned to the ground. It was a great loss to the family and Milan has lost its most beautiful building. Mr. Buit was away from home at the time. Sad indeed to become homeless in a few short hours. The family have the sympathy of many of the citizens. This is the second home Mr. Burts people have lost inside of eight years by fire.
