Washixgtox Citv, June IS. - Pepresen tative John R. Thomosj of Red Bud, Hls., is seriously ill at his residence 13S0 Q street, in this city. For some time Capt. Thomas has been troubled with absoesses of the throat, ihich have caused him great paiu, and Thursday night last he was taken violently 111, and has beeu contined to his bed ever since. His physician believes if he will obey his ordars and rernain absolutely quiet he wil] soon be all right again. The captain ismuch annoyed at not being able to go to Chicago and help along the cause of his friend, Judge - "Don't you suppose," said a mpmber of the pólice forcé, ''that a poücpman knows a rogue when hesees him?' "No doubt," was the reply: "but the trouble is he does not seize a rogue when he knows him.-'
