The corner stone of the second Baptist church (colored) was laid last Sunday afternoon with impressive and appropriate exercises, which were attended by a large audience. Rev. Dr. Ramsay made the opeuing prayer after which Rev. Dr. Haskell made an ad. dress. The laying of the corner stone was in charge of the colored masons, with Rev. Mr. Johnson, of Jackson acting as miister; W. E. Roberts, of this city, grand senior warden, of the state lodge was present to assist in the ceremonies. Ex-Governor Alpheus Felch then delivered a short address, and a collection was taken up to aid in erecting the church, which netted $106. Kev. Mr. Lewis pastor of the church made a few remarks and Rev. Mr. Johnson, pastor of the (colored) Baptist church in Jackson, pronounced the öenediction.
