The republican countv eonventiorj met last Tuesday in the Court house and proceeded at once to the business of nominating a losing ticket with the same vim as if there was sorne slight prospect of its succeeding. Col. EI. S. Dean, of this city, was made temporary ehairman and G. II. Klein, also of this city, temporary secretary. The conyention adjourned until after dinner wben Col. Dean retired trom the chair in favor of James L. Gllbert, of Chelsea, and John F. Nestell, of Manchester, was made secretary. The report of the committee on credentials showed that Bridgewater would have 10 hand in nominating the candidates. State Oil Inspector Platt and Attoruey Wilkinson were made tellers. The rules were suspended and George 3. Wheeler, of Salem, declared the cominee for judge of probate by acilamation. The rules were suspended and Jacob Martin, of Ypsilanti, was nominated lor sheriff by acclamation after George 3. Wheeler had announced that some would-be renegade democrats had told liim that if Martin were nominated he would be elected. M. F. Case, of Pittsfield, was nominated for eounty clerk by acclamation. John F. Lawrence, of Ann Arbor, was nomiuate.l, by acclamation, amid a great deal of applause, for prosecutiug, attorney, A. F. Freeruan announcing bis election as assured. Alfred Gardner, of Ann Arbor, was nominated for register of deeds bv acclamatiou. William R. Tuomey, of Scio, was in like manner nomiuated for treasurer. For circuit court commissioner Messrs. Klein, of Ann Arbor, and Monarty, of Ypsilanti, were put up for the slaughter. 'For coroners, Dr. V. F. Breakey, of Ann Arbor, and F. K. Owen, of Ypsilanti, rnet with no opposition. John K. Yocum, of Chelsea, was nominated for surveyor and in exactly fifteen minutes the nominating of the republican county offlcers was completed. Speeches were then made by John F. Lawrence, the nominee for prosecuting attorney and by Eev. J. S. Holmes, of Chelsea. The delegates to the republican senatorial convention, to be hereafter called, are Joe ï. Jacobs, William A. Clark, EmeryE. Leiand, A. W. Wilkinson, Wm. Frank, Chas. E. Hiscock, Wm. 11. Ilamilton, Elmer S. Cushman, Jerome Freeman, William Campbell, A. A. Wood.Dr.E. F. Pyle, Norman Kedner, F. A. Graves, Wm. M. Osband, J. 13. VVortley, Clark Cornwell and A.F. Freeman . The chairman of the county committee wanted to see the candidates alter the convention to discover how much bleeding they would stand, and the convention adjourned.
