Washington Crrr, Nov. 19.- First Assistaut Postmaster General Stevenson, in his annual report, states thatduring tbe past fiscal year fourth-class postmasters were appointtd as follows: On resignations and conunissions expired, 6,581; on remováis, 1,234; on deatbs oí postmasters. f!); on establishment of new postofflces, B.864; whole number of appointments, 12,268, During the year 1,(545 offices were disconbinued. Tliere were 821 more offices established and 145 more offices discontinued during the year tlian during the previous year. The increase in the whole number of postofflces is showa to have been 2,21Ü igainst 1,043 during the year Í.S87. In the New Englamt states the net iucrease was 5, against 4ö tiuring the previous year; in ihe middle states, IS3 against 202; intho southern states, Ineludlög Indian territory, 148against 785; in tbe thrée states and three territories of the Pacific slope, 19U against 115; in the ten states and six territories of the west and northwest, the net aerease was 412, against 1596. There was au increase in the number of offices in all the states excepting Maine ind New Hampshire, and in all of the territories exetsptin X Idaho and Utah.
