It is but tair to the Universitv Musical Society to state that the misfortunes which attended the concert of Monday evening, were entirely beyond tbeir control. In as much as the non-amval of Mme. Carreno's piano, made it impoasible for herto appear without violating the terms of her contract with the piano manufacturer, tho concert was only raade possible by the extreme kindness of Prof. D'Ooge who lent his piano for the occasion. While it might have been advisable under those circumstaiices, to have refused to allow the concert to proceed, the desire to hear the other artists was such, that it was thought best to carry out the program me as f ar as possible. Itwas so understood when the prelitninary announcement was made and it was also expected that the changes in the proeramme would be announced, as the modified programme was received too late for printing. That this was not done was owing to soms misunderstanding. , Kegretting that any explanation should be necessary, we leave the public to draw its ownconclusions regarding the course pursued by the other party to the contract.
