Foreign Commerce at New York and Elsewhere--The Carrying Trade.
New York, Dec. 29--The forthcoming report by Secretary George Wilson, of the New York produce exchange, will show that the foreign commerce for the port of New York for the year ended June 30, 1888, exceeded that of any other year since 1881. The following figures show the commerce of this port as compared with the aggregate of all other ports of the United States during the fiscal year referred to: Total value of imports, port of New York $510,268,432, all other ports $273,026,668.
Total exports of domestic merchandise: Port of New York, $325,789,244; all other ports, $391,268,364. Excess of foreign imports over domestic exports: At the port of New York, $184,479,188; all other ports, New York included, $66,237,492.
The distribution of the carrying trade of the total imported and exported merchandise and coin and bullion is as follows: In American vessels, $221, 577,568; in foreign vessels, $1,238,595,559; in land vehicles, $65,690,663.
