Laxsixg, Mich., Jan. 15.- The four Pa trons of Iudustry senators, who hold the balance of power in the senate, yesterday revolted from their Democratie allies by voting with the Republicans against a resolution to investígate the claims of the Democratie con testant of the seat of Senator Morse, of Alpena. Should the Patrons of Industry men continue their present independent stand it will seriously endanger the plans of the majority for redistricting the cougressional and legislativo districta of the state. The l'iitrdiii Hold the Aces. The senate consists of fourteen Republicans, fourteen straight Democrats, and four Patrons of Industry, who have heretofore acted with the Democrats. The last named are in a position to demand almost any concession they may wish in the way of farmer legislation if they persist in their newly evinced determination toflock by themselves. Lansing, Mich., Jan. 17. - Four investigating committees were ordered by the senate yesterday. One provides for an investigation of the management of the Home of the Good Shepherd in Detroit: the second directs an examination into the conduct in office of Francis B. Egan, who, it is alleged, charged $1,500 extra compensation for work perfornied directly in line with his regular duties; the third requires an investigation of the charge that the capitol clerks were assessed 2 per cent of their salaries last f all for Republicau campaign expenses, and the fourth committee will investígate the condition of things in the state treasury. Lansing, Mich., Jan. 21.- The Democratie majority in the legislature held a caucus last night and decided that the legislature should adjourn next Friday night for flve days only, and that all committees to visit the several state institutions must complete their work wfthin that time. It was also decided that the committees shall be allowed only actual expenses, and those that travel on passes shall receive no mileage. The comniitteemen paying railröad fare may receive three cents a müe on their return. The thirty-two Patrons of Industry members of the two houses formed an independent organization yesterday with Senator Brown as president and Representativo Rowden as secretary. This organization will pass upon all farmer and labor legislation and decide what measures in this line shall be advocated by the Patrón members.
