LFrom a recent sketch.] Charles Stewart Parnell was born at Avondale, county Wicklow, Ireland, in 1846, his mother being a daughter of Admiral Charles Stewart, of the United Btates. He was educated at Cambridge university, England, and was chosen high sheriff of Wicklow in 1874. He entered parliament for Meath in 1875. He was chosen president of the Irish National Land league in 1879, and for years has been leader of the Irish Home Rule party.
