George L. Shoup, one of the senators froin Idaho in the Fifty-first congresa, was born in Pennsylvania in 1836, removed to Illinois, was an ofticer in the Federal army, was appointed governor of Idaho in 1889 by President Harrison, elected governor of the saine state in 1890, and United Statea senator the same year. William McConnell, the other senator, is a native of Michigan, and is 51 yeara old. His first political acts were done in Oregon. He removed to Idaho in 1879. Both are Republicana. Fred T. Dubois, elected to serve as senator beginning next March, was born in Ulinois in 1851, removed to Idaho in 1880, and was a delégate to the Fiftieth and Fifty-first congresses.
