ANOTHER SAFETY LINK: Washtenaw county's first highway first aid station was dedicated yesterday at the Dixboro garage with the Red Cross, the sponsoring organization, and other interested groups represented in the participants in the exercises. At the extreme left by the table on which the first aid kit is setting, are Miss Josephine Davis, executive secretary of the Washtenaw chapter of the Red Cross, and Prof. Roger L. Morrison, chairman of the safety and traffic committee of the Ann Arbor branch of the Automobile club of Michigan. Both spoke at the exercises. In the front row near the center in the picture are Harold Zeeb and Harold Bissell, who operate this garage on US-12 at Dixboro. They are trained first aid workers.

DEXTER BOY PUTS ORPHAN RABBIT ON MILK DIET: Two baby rabbits that lost their parents in a grass fire in Dexter the other day were adopted by Junior and Roger Williams, sons of Mr. and Mrs. William Williams of Dexter. Estimated to be about a week old, the tiny rabbits refused to eat lettuce and were put on a milk diet. They were fed with an eye dropper first and now are thriving on milk from a bottle with a nipple. One of them bit the end off the nipple on an early feeding. Junior Williams is feeding one of the orphans in the above picture; the other ran away while the picture was being taken.

For weeks these boys have been using the old fire hall as toy repair headquarters for the community for two weeks. Above is a group of Dexter boys who are always on hand when free, sweet cider flows from a 50-gallon barrel at the Otto Wagner mill, along the Huron river. In one afternoon these boys, together with other groups, consumed 16 gallons of free cider. The proprietor says that the boys would be there yet, with upturned mugs, the facial as well as the glass varieties, if it hadn't been necessary to close up the mill for the night. The boys shown in the picture are, reading from left to right: Charles Mosher, Jack Wall, Alvin Kolander, Arthur Bell, James Bell, and Vincent La Rosa.

TANK CARS GIVE CHELSEA APPEARANCE OF OIL TOWN: Fifty or more oil tank cars may be seen from US-12 almost any day on a Michigan Central Railroad siding west of Chelsea. They are loaded with oil from the fields in the Bloomingdale area in Van Buren county, 100 miles west of Chelsea. The oil is sent through a branch pipe line at Chelsea to the pumping station on the Michigan-Ohio pipe line near the village. The pipe line carries it to the refineries at Toledo.

Their instructor and adviser, Roy Wallis, is shown at the left and the tree boys nearest him were members of the champion dairy judging team, while the three at the right were potato judging champions. From left to right, back row, are Veryl Haflay (?), ? Merkel, Francis Hafner, Robert Swartzmiller and Warren Hoover. Standing in front with Mr. Wallis is Max Hepburn. Merkel won first place in the state in individual dairy judging, and Hepburn placed third.

Use of the new building has been held up by the delay in receiving shipments of certain materials for finishing the interior. A former bank building has housed the post office for the last two years, and previous to that mail was distributed from a location on the east side of Main St., between South and Middle streets.

Eager Ann Arbor school children crowded around the touring replica of the famous Liberty Bell on the Courthouse lawn this morning, but not for long. A steady spring rain dispersed the visitors and abbreviated the bell's showing here within an hour of its arrival. Before the rains came, however, five Mack School children tolled the bell as others watched. John W. Rae (dark suit at right), county chairman of the event, presided. George F. Williams (left) of Erwin Prieskorn post of the American Legion assisted in the ceremonies. The facsimile of the Liberty Bell is on a state tour to stimulate the purchase of government bonds.

More than 40 Burns Park youngsters contributed to a handicraft display which attracted a large crowd to the park last night. Showing the scope of activity of the children was a doll house which was equipped with furnishings made by the boys and girls. The boys constructed the wood furniture and the girls assisted by weaving rugs, making the curtains and finishing the overstuff furniture. Wooden plates, ornaments, hot pad holders, and other articles were made by the children and included in the show. Lee Walrath, Miss Agnes Robinson and Miss Helen Heywood directed the handicraft program at this park.
