Week One Reopening Details: June 15-21

by richretyi

aadl reopen week one

The week of June 15th - June 21st, we'll begin offering test pickups for some items on the hold shelf. Watch your email for this potential preview of the new pickup appointments system!

PHASE ONE OF PICKUP APPOINTMENTS
In the first week, some patrons will receive emails offering appointments to pick up materials that were already on the hold shelves when our doors closed in March. These patrons will have a chance to set up appointments for contactless pickup at their pickup locations, to help us clear some of the materials already on our hold shelves, and allow AADL staff to to fine tune the process. Beginning June 22nd, pickup appointments will be available to all our patrons. Stay tuned for updates!

DUE DATES
Check your due dates! All due dates have now been set, and nothing is due until July 13 at the earliest. Each account will have all its currently checked out items due on a random Monday in July or August to spread out the due dates. Check your myaccount page to see when your materials are marked due. Please don't worry about any overdue fees for the forseeable future. We're all getting used to this new way of service! If you have a question about a due date or a fee, please dm, call or text 734-327-4200 or email ask@aadl.org.

REQUESTS HAVE BEEN FROZEN
All requests have been frozen! As we get ready to reopen, we've frozen all outstanding requests. You'll continue to move up the queue while your requests are frozen, but we won't process a request until you've unfrozen it in your account. This is to give you a chance to prioritize the items you really want to pick up, and doesn't flood the system with unwanted requests.

Unfreeze your requests to get them as soon as possible, or cancel them if you don't want them anymore. You can freeze or unfreeze your requests on your my account page, or dm, call or text 734-327-4200 or email ask@aadl.org. For more information on how frozen requests work, click here.

RETURNS
Starting June 15, you can return your items to any AADL location using the exterior returns slots. For Tools, art prints, and oversize items, we request that you wait until due dates begin in July to return them. Thanks for hanging onto all this stuff for so long, we're almost ready to take it all back!

Thanks for the info! I'm curious as to what happened to items that were in transit at the time of the closure: did those holds simply revert to being frozen with my account in the number 1 spot, or will they pop up on the hold shelf anyway?

Good question. Items that were in transit to their pickup location when we closed should still find their way to the hold shelf, but it's possible that they might go awry. So keep an eye on your my account page, and if it's still in transit come 6/22 as we're resuming pickups, contactus and we can get it sorted out for you.

I have two items on the hold shelf, plus I had one that was in transit, but I can’t remember what it was — anyway, it disappeared from my holds list. Is there any hope it will pop back up somehow?

There is hope! It really depends on where physically the cart with your item landed. However if the transit status gets cleared but the item doesn't make it to the holdshelf, your request should go back to outstanding, it shouldn't disappear from your list. Let us know if you need anything else on this!

For additional context, I saw today that the items on my account that have been in transit since March have been marked as "in transit" again, without my manually doing anything to them. I hope yours come back as well!

Will we be able to renew any of the books already checked out on our account or do we need to return it all?

Hi there, good question! Nothing is changing with renewals. You'll still be able to renew your items if there are no outstanding requests for that title. However, due to a quirk of the system, don't renew until you get close to your due date. If you renew today, it will be as if you checked out today, which could be a sooner due date than when we've manually set your items to be due. Just let us know if you need any assistance!

Hi there, that's an error. No items are ready for pickup now, and once we begin pickup service, you'll only be able to pick up your items when you've scheduled a pickup in response to a notice that your items are almost ready. Hang in there while we're getting this all ready, and don't come to pick up your items until you've chosen a pickup date and received a confirmation that your items are ready!

More info to come soon about how this will work. Right now we're just digging out from under the piles of material!

Hi! We are LOVING contactless lobby pickup! The kids are so happy to have fresh books! However, if the state/region goes back to Phase 3 of reopening, will the libraries close again?
