In the Ohio American we have noticed a correspondenpe betweon Martin VVill son, a Liberty man of Detroit, and Jacob M. Howard, of the same place. Mr. [ïoward's replies seern to have chiefiy grown out of a statement by Mr. Willson that Mr. Howard had seen the forgery len days before it was received in Detroit írom Ohio, whereas Mr. H. contends that he satv it only eight. days before. There is nothing in this which needed any very elabórate answer from Mr. Howard. - The sensitiveness that gentlemen luiscihvays displayed respecting this aflair is quite extraordiuary, and is well referred to by Mr. Willson in the conclusión of [lis letter: "In conclusión, I cannot but comment on the singular senshivei.ess which Mr. Howard betrays when a word is said respecting the Garland forgery, or its authorship. Why is it that he has faced round to one and to another? - that he has thrown the gauntlet here and there? - is nervous under allusion, and takes issue with all papers publishing U for a supposed charge of authorship on him? Why all this? I have not, nor has any one to my knowledge cMrged him with the authorship. AU we say is this, that the forgery was conceived and born in or nearDetroit - appearcd there in lts swadiing - was found in the hands of members of the Whig Committee - 'Was sent from there (Detroit) by a Whig(McCoy) to an Ohio Whig paper- was by that paper introduced to the public - baptized as true, and under the sponsorship of its editors - that it reitsrated the very chavges which wère also announced as true by Mr. Howard's celebrated "use it then" letter to Mr. Winthrop - that all this while the Whigs "and numerous other persons" (all Whigs) kept the silence of death on the subject, and permitted this Monarch of Roorbacks to fulnl its foul destiny, unchecked and unexposed, and finally didnot even admit the above facts untilthey were dragged forth by the searching evidence of the Liberty Committee of Detroit. This is all we assert, but it is enough - it is undeniable; and no quibble about "two days," find no untrue imputation of a want f investigaron by Liberty men can ever divert public atlention from the inculpating facls. Respect fully your obedient servant,
