READY FOR OPENER: Ann Arbor high's Pioneers will open their football season at Wayne tomorrow afternoon with Wayne high providing the opposition. Starting in the Purple and White backfield will be, left to right, Bob Hendee, right half, Lewis Kalb, quarterback, Captain Bob Westfall, fullback, and Willis Warner, left half. Coach Louis Hollway is still far from certain as to his starting forwards but last night nominated Sam Neustadt as right end, Pete Kokenakes at right tackle, Ned Reading at right guard, George Tessmer at center, Bill Lillis at left guard, Marshall Karr at left tackle and Carl Watkins at left end.

PIONEERS WILL PRESENT COLORFUL PICTURE: Ann Arbor High's football team will present a colorful picture when it trots out on the turf at Wines Field tonight to do battle with Monroe. The Pioneers will be decked out in new uniforms of royal blue trimmed with white. The starting line will probably be composed of Phil Reid, left end; Louis Apostolou, left tackle; Johnny Wares, left guard; Don Cress, center; Capt. Pete Gochis, right guart; Bill Bush, right table and Glen Lake, right end. The backfield will be composed of, left to right, Carl Watkins, halfback; Jack Davies, quarterback; Bob Plichta, fullback and Harry Koruan, halfback.

HOLDS EDGE: Carl Watkins, above, holds the edge over other candidates at the present time for the right halfback position on the Ann Arbor High school football team. Watkins is a hard runner and a good passer. He played most of last season at left end.
