Ann Arbor Veterans Day Parade - November 11, 1972 Photographer: Cecil Lockard
Year:
1972
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, November 12, 1972
Caption:
Veterans' Day is still Nov. 11 to Ann Arbor veterans. They proved it Saturday with a parade along city streets. U-M Pershing Rifle Club members were among units marching down S. Division. Veterans here observed Nov. 11 - the traditional day celebrated to mark the end of World War I - as Veterans' Day despite a congressional edict designating the fourth Monday in October as Veterans' Day. Besides the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and other local veterans groups, parade participants included the Whitmore Lake High School band, members of the sheriff's and fire departments and National Guard. Police estimated that about 400 persons turned out to watch the parade. (News photo by Cecil Lockard)
