City Dump's Future Limited: Ypsilanti's city dump, located north of the US-12 Expressway and east of S. Huron St., may be closed to non-city users in the near future unless a solution to the city's future rubbish disposal problem is found soon. The city is negotiating with the Ford Motor Co. about a possible expansion of the dump area to the east (right, above). "Nobody's happy" with the present dump operation, City Manager Olaf R. Pearson said in outlining plans to secure a new sanitary fill site, possibly to serve both the city and Ypsilanti township.

TIME-CONSUMING JOB FOR FIREMEN: Ypsilanti fireman are called out almost every day and sometimes several times in a day to put out fires at the S. Huron St. city dump, according to Chief Gerald H. Kelly. The fires are started by thoughtless children or adults. Fireman at the nozzle is Lt. Aaron Carson, and behind him is Fireman L. J. Dawson.
