Touching Up Church A member of the First United Methodist Church's planning committee liked what he saw when he observed 17-year-old Mike Dukes working on a painting in the church "eating and meeting" room. So he asked Dukes, who is a student at Pioneer High School, if her would help restore the wall near the stained glass in the chancel area where leakage has caused plaster to fall. Dukes, who is a member of Methodist Youth Fellowship, prepared stencils of symbols on the rest of the wall, sanded the area and now is handpainting the symbols onto the wall from the stencils. The background is being painted with an oil-based latex, while the designs are being painted from a water-based medium (News photo by Jack Stubbs).
