New Expressway Cutoff Opened: This $1,028,864 cutoff of the US-12 Expressway southeast of Ypsilanti was opened to traffic yesterday. The cutoff (center) carries through Expressway traffic from a point near McGregor Ave. to S. Harris Rd. (lower right). The former Expressway lanes (across center) will continue to be used for local area traffic. The project, slated for completion by Nov. 30, eliminates two sharp curves in the Expressway and shortens the actual travel distance by nearly two miles. Part of the West Willow Subdivision area is at top left.

Village 'Face Lifting': This aerial view of Willow Village shows the changing appearance of the World War II "Bomber City." Some of the more than 500 new private homes occupied in the Ypsilanti township portion are shown as well as part of the 106 new houses constructed in the Superior township section of the Village. Until Ypsilanti township took over operation of the Village, there were more than 2,500 row-type apartment units. Now there are less than 350 such units scattered across the Village. The scarred land remains after the "temporary" rental units are cleared away and until new housing is constructed. This view looks northeast, with Holmes Rd. in the upper right corner.

West Side Development: Stretching into Ypsilanti township beyond the city of Ypsilanti's west limits is the new extension to Collegewood Dr. (above) which is bordered on both sides by completed homes and homes under construction. Above Cornell Rd. (running from left to right at upper center) are 12 homes built on Collegewood by the United Homes, Inc., which was followed by a lull in building. Recently the NuSharona Home Builders Inc., of Detroit took over the entire College Heights subdivision and have taken out 27 building permits on Collegewood (note completed basements and model home).
