Boost School Enrollment: The sudden increase in the number of children under 20 years of age in the Ypsilanti School District is being directly attributed to a pair of housing developments southeast of Ypsilanti - the Nancy Park and Shady Knolls subdivisions. This aerial view (top) is looking north toward those two residential areas. The Ypsilanti Board of Education last night bought a school site adjacent to the clump of trees (center) directly north of Nancy Park (lower development).

Development of subdivisions in Ann Arbor didn't start on an all-out basis until about 1950. Their astounding growth since then is partially seen on the city's northwest side in these aerials. At the top are three subdivisions, all north of Miller Ave., which cuts across photo at lower left. Northwood subdivision (right center) contains about 54 homes. The woods, extending in a rough line bordering Northwood, shield Newport Rd. from view. On the far side of Newport are seen two more projects. Westridge subdivision (upper left) now has more than a dozen homes, and at the extreme top center is another project, Westport Hills. Recently started, Westport now has about five homes up and several basements excavated. When completed Westridge will have 33 homes and Westport Hills, 70. They both abut the west side of Newport Rd.

Moving farther west of Miller Ave. more subdivisions come into range, as viewed in the bottom aerial. The roads being constructed (center) are in Martin Acres subdivision, scheduled to have more than 100 homes when completed. Five houses have been started there. Miller ave. is seen at an angle cutting across the lower left corner of the picture. At the extreme left center (fronting Miller Ave.) are completed homes in Arbor Heights subdivision. Bruce and Duncan Streets enter Miller Ave. at left. Note ponds at upper right.

Pittsfield Village, Pittsfield Park: Typical of urban development in Pittsfield township is the establishment of residential districts such as Pittsfield Village and Pittsfield Park, shown here. The Village, a large rental housing project, is identifiable by the curving roads. Pittsfield Park, a community of some 100 houses, is toward the upper left in the photo. A string of businesses have located in the area to service these residents. Other businesses and light industries have located in the township because of its proximity to Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.

Activity in Scio: A portion of Scio township land is being developed for new homes in what is called Huron Heights subdivision. Maple Rd. cuts across this aerial photograph near the bottom as it divides Scio township (to the top of it) and Ann Arbor township (to the bottom of it). Land under development is just above maple Rd. Dirt roads shown cut through the fields form the subdivision streets. They follow natural valleys at the base of hills upon which future homes are expected to be built. This subdivision, platted into 59 lots, each an acre or more in size, extends north to overlook the W. Huron River Dr. and the river (extreme right and not shown). The farm which fronts Maple Rd. on the Scio township side belongs to James B. Craig.
