A lot of people are afraid of triskaidekaphobia - at least the spelling of it. Actually, it refers to superstitions some hold about things like walking under ladders and having anything to do with the number 13. For example, they'd like to skip today - Friday, the 13th - altogether. But Becky Castor (above) of 2217 Independence exhibits some of the stuff in her street's name by celebrating her 13th birthday today with 13 young guests and all kinds of spooky objects intended to spoof the whole idea. She'll prove her point...if one of her guests doesn't break a leg, or something.

The three Miss Gallaghers living at the Chi Omega sorority house on campus decorate one of their rooms with shamrocks and a picture of Blarney Castle for St. Patrick's Day. Working on the decorations are (from left) Sherry Gallagher of Alma, a junior; Kathleen Gallagher of Grosse Pointe, a sophomore, and Jean Gallagher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur P. Gallagher of Londonderry Road, a senior. Although the girls have the same last name they are not related to each other.

AND AWAY WE GO: Steve Simmons (on top of the ladder) reaches for the balloons which he'll hang from the ceiling at Barton Hills Country Club for tonight's dance. Curtis Estes, (seated on the ladder) isn't having any luck with his share of decorating as the crepe paper bow breaks from too much stress. The Misses Marty Buhr (center) and Mitzi Arnold were also in on the decorating for the semi-formal event.
