Second Baptist Church Razed For New Church Building, July 1952

Second Baptist Church Being Razed - The Second Baptist Church building at N. Fifth Ave. and Beakes St. is being torn down to make way for a new church to be erected on the same site. Rev. C. W. Carpenter, pastor, said the Second Baptist congregation has used the building being razed since 1888. The church was organized here in 1865. Cost of the new structure and other details have not yet been announced

Weather Aids Church Construction - Construction has moved steadily on Ann Arbor's two main church building projects, thanks to the mild winter. The new $120,000 Second Baptist Church on Beakes St. (above) is nearing completion. The church is expected to be ready for use by Mother's Day, the second Sunday of May. Finishing work is now under-way. The plain windows will be replaced by stained glass panes upon completion.

The sanctuary of the new $120,000 Second Baptist Church at Beakes St. and N. Fifth Ave. is shown above. The church, of contemporary design throughout, will be dedicated at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. The cross on the altar is a gift of Probate Judge Jay H. Payne in memory of his mother. The baptistry is behind the altar. Local architects Kasurin and Kasurin designed the building, and the Kurtz Building Co. was the general contractor. The painting behind the altar was done by a former member.
